General Information
Informorac Sénégal started in 2003 as a program of RNTC. In the first years the program supported 8 community radio stations all over the country. They all received up-to date broadcasting equipment such as an on-air studio, reporting material, transmitter with antenna system and generators. However, the main focus of the Informorac programme is to strengthen the capacity of local staff and volunteers that run community radio. Training is based on their perceived needs.
Track Record of Informorac Senegal
In 2006 the training centre in Thiès was transformed into an autonomous local NGO. RNTC decided to support the training centre for another period till 2010 for a capacity strengthening program of 12 community stations: the former 8 and 4 new ones. Despite its young history Informorac Senegal developed already several partnerships with other (inter)national development agencies such as:
- World Education – Evaluation of the community radio network in Casamance
- FIARA – Production of several programs on micro-enterprises present at the annual agricultural fair in Dakar
With other organisations like ANCAR, UNIFEM and OSIWA new projects in the field of community media are in preparation. Informorac Senegal is eager to extend their activities and diversify its partners.
