General information
The radio broadcasting scene in Guinea has drastically changed after the signature in September 2005 of the decree opening up the air waves. The application of the decree has allowed the emergence of new media in the field of broadcasting in the country. Radio stations with an international dimension could be set up in Conakry and private, local initiatives seized the chance of this liberalization to launch commercial radio stations or community radio stations.
The events of January and February 2007 and the installation of the Government for Change shortly after brought about a new wind in Guinea. Although the information and communication authorities in charge grasp and accept the mutations within the Guinean broadcasting and media, much remains to be done in allocating air waves, regulating the media sector and for the gradual autonomy of local, rural radio stations.
Informorac Guinea
The Informorac program in Guinea aims to strengthen the capacity of 6 rural community radio stations and support 3 projects to set up new radio stations. The program is implemented in collaboration with the 4RGUI network, a network of rural radio stations and magazines. Following a prospective conference and the needs survey, the training centre opened its doors in March 2008.
