General information
In 2003 Informorac Guinea Bissau started with a capacity building programme for 12 community radio stations scattered all over the country. The country has been through political instability in the last few years and one of the consequences is that the mostly young journalists have not had access to a proper education. Informorac GB tries to fill this gap through journalistic, technical and management training.
Track record
At the end of 2006, the Guinea Bissau Informorac training centre was transformed into an independent local NGO. The organisation has signed a partnership agreement with RNTC to continue its support of 12 community radio stations for the period 2007-2008. To achieve financial autonomy and to pursue its activities, Informorac Guinea Bissau has already developed partnerships with other development organisations such as:
- Plan Guinea Bissau – production of radio programmes for girls’ education
- UNOGBIS – production of programmes on the theme of rehabilitation
- National Election Committee (CNE) – productions covering presidential elections
- ALTERNAG –programmes on the issue of small arms collections
Other projects are in preparation with, amongst others, OXFAM Senegal, INDE and AMIC.
