What is Informotrac?
Informotrac is short for Initiative For Mobile Training of Community Radio.
The initiative was launched by RNTC, the Dutch-based centre of excellence in the field of media, development and education. The project aims to strengthen the capacities of community radio stations and is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs until the end of 2010. It is part of the programme "Strengthening Media, Empowering People" that RNTC has developed in partnership with Press Now.
Informotrac is implemented in collaboration with local partners in the following countries:
- DR Congo – Réseau des Médias Associatifs et Communautaires du Bas Congo (Remacob)
- Guinea Bissau – Informorac/GB
- Guinea Conakry – Informorac/Guinea
- Liberia – Liberia Media Center (LMC)
- Senegal – Informorac/SN
- Sierra Leone – Informotrac/SL
Informotrac services:
- Training in journalistic skills such as on-air presentation, radio interviews etc
- Technical training in editing, sound engineering, use of equipment etc
- Management training
- Audience research and programming
- Enhancing community involvement
- Technical and logistic support
- Co-productions
Mobile training
Instead of bringing participants to training sessions, Informotrac brings the training to the participants. Informotrac trainers travel to community radio stations with mobile training units. This is extremely effective because people are trained in their own environment and context and regular broadcasts can remain on air.
